JAMIN UK (Jamaicans Inspired UK) has announced the launch of their Voice of Jamaica competition in partnership with UK based Latchmere Productions. According to organizers, the aim of the song writing competition is to help Jamaicans living in the United Kingdom and the European Union to reconnect through music with Jamaica.
Through the competition, JAMIN UK hopes to find the next young reggae & gospel talents to represent the best of diaspora talent. The winning reggae song will be used as the official UK Independence Festival Song for Jamaica 56. The winner will get an all-expense paid trip to Jamaica to perform and record the winning song.
It’s important that the talent in the diaspora regions is represented and we are driven, working partnership with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission to ensure the great music tradition from Jamaica is continued in the diaspora regions. -JAMIN UK
In 2019, JAMIN UK will also be launching the Youth Voice of Jamaica for talents under 18 years old to encourage younger members of the diaspora to explore their Jamaican heritage through music. This competition will run in 2019 to coincide with the Jamaica Diaspora Conference to be held in August of that year.
To enter, contestants can visit the JAMIN UK website, complete the application form, upload an audition video on Vimeo/YouTube with hashtag #VoiceOfJa2018 #JA56 then email the video link along with contact information, a short biography, two photographs and social media handles to firstname.lastname@example.org
