Washington, D.C. – Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Edmund Bartlett at a special celebratory reception hosted by Ambassador Audrey Marks to honour the Hon. Audley Shaw for being awarded Best Finance Minister of the Year for the Caribbean at the Embassy of Jamaica, announced that Jamaica will host the first ever Global Conference on Job Creation and Inclusive Growth: Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism, at the Montego Bay Convention Centre from November 27-29, 2017.
This conference will see the global leadership of tourism along with key stakeholders in the industry converging on Jamaica to deliberate on matters of sustainability, develop a blueprint to inform the next millennial goals of the United Nations and to provide the content of the next publication of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) messaging on sustainable development.
We will be bringing the disruptors – Airbnb, Uber, Homestay and Eon Reality who will be sitting on our panels. But beyond that, we will be having an Expo on Smart Tourism Destinations where we will have the likes of Google, LinkedIn and Watsons, HP, LG and Samsung discussing what tourism will look like in the years to come.
According to the Minister, Eon Reality in particular will be on hand displaying how through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Human Intelligence (HI) will be improved, thus enabling players in the tourism sector to build more resilient and sustainable tourism products. Additionally, the organizers have included a number of Caribbean themes within the Call for Papers, which cover tourism and sustainability, where threats, risks and challenges, the strengthening of the human capital and human capital trends; the tourism value chain linkages and technology and innovation will be discussed.
To top it all off, the first ever summit on social media in the world will be held on the 30th of November with an awards ceremony for the internet providers of the world to be held that same night. So in those three days, Jamaica will be the center of global attention. We will be streaming live from our Little Rock to the four corners of the world through social media where 2.1 billion people are connected everyday.
The conference is sponsored and partnered by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the World Bank Group (WBG), Inter American Development Bank (IDB) and the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS), World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC) – the private sector arm of tourism in the world and the George Washington University in Washington D.C.,
